Frequently Asked Questions

How long are your lessons and how much do you charge?

Lessons are usually for half an hour at a cost of £14.00, running in school term time.

Where do the lessons take place?

At my home in Exeter. I am able to travel locally to students on one evening per week if I have the time available.

Do you teach adults?

Yes. Adult lessons can be weekly or fortnightly.

I don't want to take exams, can I come for lessons?

Of course. Some people wish to take examinations and some like to improve their skills for personal enjoyment.

One fifteen year old student who played purely for pleasure changed his mind and took Grade 8 as his first exam. He passed with merit, giving him his first 'A' Level.

Graded examinations now have academic recognition, Grade 5 being equivalent to G.C.S.E and Grade 7/8 as an 'A' Level.

What kind of music will I study?

The books that I use cover a variety of styles and have been carefully arranged and graded to provide an attractive teaching repertoire for beginners. For the more advanced who wish to specialize, there is now, thankfully, a wide range of material available.

How do I know if you are the right teacher for me?

What I usually suggest if you are considering starting lessons with me, is to come and try one out and see how it goes.
